Russian spy operation stopped in Sweden

The Swedish security service, Säpo, has successfully dismantled an active Russian spy operation within Sweden. According to reports from the Swedish media outlet SVT, two Russian intelligence officers were involved in recruiting an agent from a foreign diplomatic representation in the country.

Säpo monitored a clandestine meeting between the foreign agent and one of the Russian officers at a Stockholm bar. "We know what tasks were assigned and what information the agent subsequently obtained," stated Christoffer Wedelin, deputy head of operations at Säpo, to SVT. The operation was reportedly designed to damage Sweden's international standing.

All individuals involved, the two Russian intelligence officers and the agent, have reportedly left Sweden. Säpo confirmed that there are no ongoing investigations against them, as their actions were covered by diplomatic immunity. This development highlights ongoing geopolitical tensions and intelligence activities in the region.
