Rwanda Ministry Urges Districts to Prioritize Neglected Tropical Disease Prevention

Rwanda's Ministry of Local Government is calling on all districts to actively incorporate the prevention of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) into their core development plans and performance contracts. This directive underscores the government's commitment to tackling these debilitating illnesses at the local level.

The initiative specifically targets diseases such as trachoma, Buruli ulcer, lymphatic filariasis, and others that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. By integrating NTD prevention into district-level planning, the ministry aims to ensure that resources and strategies are effectively deployed to combat these diseases.

Local governments are being urged to make NTD prevention a key performance indicator, holding district leaders accountable for progress in controlling and eliminating these diseases within their jurisdictions. This approach seeks to foster a sense of ownership and urgency among local authorities.
