Sacked after 25 and 30 years at Srbija Kargo: 'Just some numbers and codes – that's how we realized we were written off'

A wave of layoffs has hit the state-owned company Srbija Kargo, with more than 350 employees dismissed after dedicating decades of their lives to the company. The scale of the redundancies, which became a focus of public attention on Friday, has left many workers feeling abandoned and undervalued.

Two workers from Niš shared their experiences, describing the shock and disbelief upon receiving their termination notices. They reported that the reasons provided were vague, consisting of little more than "numbers and codes." This impersonal and abrupt manner of dismissal has led to feelings of being "discarded" after long years of loyal service, spanning 25 and 30 years for many.

The situation has sparked significant public discussion and concern regarding the treatment of long-serving employees within state-run enterprises. The lack of clear communication and the seemingly arbitrary nature of the dismissals have fueled criticism of the company's management and decision-making processes.
