Sadyr Japarov concludes SCO Plus summit in Bishkek

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov closed the SCO Plus summit in Bishkek by calling for continued dialogue despite differing views among participants.

Japarov said the countries represented at the meeting shared an understanding that disputes should be addressed through dialogue and international law. He identified a stronger role for the United Nations as the meeting’s main outcome.

The main point is that we are united in understanding the need to preserve dialogue and seek solutions based on international law.

“If we want to build a fair multipolar world, we must strengthen the role of the United Nations,” Japarov said. He added that multipolarity should give states equal opportunities to participate in global affairs without creating new dividing lines.

The SCO Plus meeting was attended by representatives of 18 countries and seven international organizations. Its agenda included the United Nations’ role, the development of a multipolar world, international and regional security, sustainable development and broader cooperation among states and international associations.
