Sahmyook University concludes 'Nowon Children's English Camp' for summer vacation

Sahmyook University, in collaboration with the Nowon District Office, has successfully completed its '2026 Summer Vacation Nowon Children's English Camp'. The closing ceremony marked the end of the intensive, experiential program designed to provide elementary school students with practical English skills and global awareness in an environment simulating actual language immersion.

Now in its 21st year, the camp has been held every summer and winter vacation, accumulating over 15,000 alumni. This year's camp ran for eight days, from July 26 to August 2, on the Sahmyook University campus. It hosted 160 students from the 3rd to 6th grades residing in Nowon District, who were divided into eight classes based on their proficiency levels determined by a pre-camp assessment.

During the camp, students participated in classes conducted entirely in English within an 'English Only Zone' (EOZ). Native English-speaking instructors and Korean assistant teachers led the sessions, which focused on listening, reading, writing, speaking, and pronunciation. Beyond academics, the program emphasized community living, teaching cooperation, consideration, and international etiquette.

The curriculum included a variety of engaging activities, such as arts and cultural experiences with native speakers, sports-based English learning, and role-playing practical English scenarios in settings like airports, hospitals, and restaurants. Evening activities like campfires and recreational programs involving singing and dancing provided opportunities for students to interact and build friendships.

Sahmyook University President Je Hae-jong highlighted the successful, long-standing operation of the camp due to the synergy between the university's educational capabilities and the Nowon District's support. He expressed hope that the students would grow into global leaders ready to challenge themselves in a wider world. The camp aims to nurture students into globally competent individuals.
