Sam Chou denies jealousy feud with Eric Chou, admits costly mistake in independent venture

Taiwanese singer-songwriter Sam Chou, also known as Zhou Yutian, has firmly denied recent media reports suggesting a rift between him and his younger brother, Mandopop star Eric Chou (Zhou Xingzhe).

The rumors alleged that Eric Chou was jealous of their parents' financial support for Sam's independent music company. Sam Chou dismissed these claims as "exaggerated," asserting that any past sibling rivalry was confined to childhood. "I can't even remember the last time we argued, how could he possibly envy me?" he questioned, recalling their childhood games where he admits to being a bit rough with his younger brother, sometimes making him cry.

Chou, who launched his independent venture in 2024, acknowledged facing the harsh realities of the industry and admitted to a significant setback last year. He recounted an incident where a music video he self-funded for his single 'Blueskies & Heartaches' was released with a single-channel audio track. This error was only discovered after the video was uploaded, leaving him frustrated but accepting of the situation. "Maybe it's also my fault; I uploaded it without checking," he admitted.

Despite the financial loss and the disappointment of a flawed product, Chou chose not to seek compensation, absorbing the cost himself. He explained his positive outlook: "I've always been able to think things through. Even if I was very unhappy or angry, it couldn't change the outcome." He views such experiences as learning opportunities, stating that he has learned much more since leaving his previous company, handling everything from schedules to makeup himself.

To date, Chou has released five songs, investing over a million dollars of his savings into his independent music career. He plans to continue releasing music he is satisfied with for his fans. Addressing persistent rumors about his dating life, Chou, who is currently single, stated that he doesn't understand why he is frequently photographed. He also shared his personal aspirations, hoping to have children before turning 40, specifically a daughter, jokingly adding that he would 'give' a son to his brother, Eric, who already has two children. Chou mentioned that his mother is particularly fond of her granddaughter, finding immense joy in her presence.
