Samantha Morton: No new roles since Nolan's 'Odyssey,' but confident about future

Samantha Morton, acclaimed for her role as the sorceress Circe in Christopher Nolan's "Odyssey," has revealed that she has not secured any new acting engagements since the film's production. Despite her performance receiving significant praise, the 49-year-old actress finds herself in a period of professional pause.

I haven't worked for a year, since filming 'Odyssey.' I have very good agents and managers, but at the end of the day, I'm 49. I believe I'm a good actress, but there are other good actresses. You know what I mean? Relationships in the industry have drastically changed.

Speaking on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, Morton discussed the evolving landscape of the film industry. "I haven't worked for a year, since filming 'Odyssey,'" she stated. Morton, who starred opposite Matt Damon's Odysseus, expressed hope and faith in her career's longevity. "I suppose if you persevere, continue to do quality work, and if the right people see it, maybe you can continue to work," she said. She remains optimistic about continuing her acting career into her eighties, despite the current lull.

However, she acknowledged the creative and financial struggles that can arise when plans don't materialize, especially as a mother of three with a mortgage.

There have been situations when things did not go according to plan and I was very sad, both creatively and financially, because I have three children, a mortgage and a life.

Morton, known for her Oscar-nominated performances in "Sweet and Lowdown" and "In America," as well as roles in "Minority Report" and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," believes that success comes from honesty, dignity, and compassion. She encourages others to cherish moments of success, recognizing them as rare and valuable.
