Samsung Electronics to Produce Heat Pump Boilers in Gwangju

Samsung Electronics is bringing the production of its heat pump boilers back to South Korea, establishing a new manufacturing line at its Gwangju plant. This strategic shift is in direct response to the government's initiative to promote the electrification of heating systems across the country. The company aims to secure a production capacity exceeding 100,000 units annually.

The new production facility, spanning 2,132 square meters within the Gwangju plant's second campus, began trial production on June 19. Samsung Electronics plans to commence full-scale mass production by the end of September, following rigorous checks on process stability and product performance. The entire output from this line, capable of producing over 100,000 heat pump boilers each year, will be sold domestically.

Samsung Electronics marks the first manufacturer participating in the government's heating electrification project to relocate its overseas production base back to South Korea. The company has also committed to progressively increasing the proportion of domestic components and manufacturing processes used in its heat pump boilers. This includes strengthening its supply chain by engaging more local partners and contributing to the economic vitality of the Gwangju region.

Heat pump boilers offer a highly efficient heating solution, utilizing ambient air's thermal energy and electricity to provide warmth and hot water. They generate approximately five times more heat energy than the electricity consumed, making them more energy-efficient and producing fewer carbon emissions compared to traditional fossil fuel boilers. Samsung Electronics is also actively promoting the widespread adoption of heat pump boilers in the South Korean market through demonstration projects tailored to local conditions. The recent amendment to the "Renewable Energy Act," which officially recognizes thermal energy from the air as renewable energy, further supports the government's expansion of heating electrification programs.
