Samsung SDS Enters Robotics Transformation Business, Plans Platform Launch in 2027

Samsung SDS is moving beyond digital AI transformation into the factory floor, announcing a robotics transformation business and a planned platform to coordinate production equipment and robots.

At its Real Summit 2026 event in Seoul on September 8, Samsung SDS Chief Executive Lee Jun-hee said the company had built manufacturing expertise through work with about 430 customers in semiconductors, secondary batteries, biotechnology, automobiles, materials and components. The company created an RX Business Team and RX Execution Team within its cloud services division in June.

Samsung SDS is testing whether manual work at various manufacturing sites can be converted through combinations of robot hardware and physical AI. It has also formed Team REX, or Robotics Excellence, with 10 leading physical AI companies, including Rainbow Robotics, Walden Robotics and Airobot. The partners plan to standardize ways for different robots to interoperate and establish common performance standards.

The company plans to introduce a robot-orchestration platform in 2027. The system will connect production equipment and robots and provide integrated control. Samsung SDS also said it would strengthen cooperation with OpenAI and Anthropic.

As South Korea's first corporate participant, Samsung SDS will join OpenAI's Daybreak Partner Program as a pilot partner. The program uses next-generation frontier models to identify vulnerabilities, verify real-world impacts, generate and test security patches, and complete final fixes. Samsung SDS plans to combine that work with its experience in building operating systems for businesses to offer AI-based cyberdefense services. Lee said the company would support customers' AI transformation through its AI technology and global ecosystem.
