Samsung Unveils Foldable Trio with AI Focus, Prices Rise for Ultra, Flip Models

Samsung has launched its latest foldable smartphones, aiming to solidify its dominance in the premium smartphone market amidst anticipated competition from Apple. The new lineup includes the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8, all revealed at the 'Galaxy Unpacked 2026' event in London.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 introduces a new aspect ratio, offering a 5.5-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch main display. It boasts the lightest design in the Fold series at 201g, a 4800mAh battery, and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The Fold 8 Ultra, a new top-tier model, features an 8-inch screen, a 200-megapixel camera, and a 5000mAh battery, with a remarkably thin profile of 4.1mm when unfolded.

The Flip 8, designed in a clamshell form factor, is the thinnest and lightest in its series, enhancing portability. Samsung highlighted advancements in display technology, including titanium materials for increased durability, reduced screen creasing, and a 15% increase in maximum brightness. The company also emphasized its new AI features, powered by Google's Gemini Intelligence, which enables context-aware automation for tasks like scheduling and shopping, alongside enhanced security features.

Samsung Electronics' Device eXperience (DX) Division head, Roh Tae-moon, stated that the new Galaxy Z series represents Samsung's most advanced foldable products, designed to elevate the mobile experience and usher in the next era of intelligence with personalized services. The new devices will be available globally starting August 7, with domestic pre-orders running from July 28 to August 3. Pricing for the 256GB models starts at 1.683 million won for the Flip 8, 2.2781 million won for the Fold 8, and 2.5773 million won for the Fold 8 Ultra, with the Ultra and Flip 8 models seeing a price increase of nearly 200,000 won compared to their predecessors. The event also introduced the Intelligent Eyewear smart glasses and the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2.
