San Lorenzo appoints Pipo Gorosito as new head coach

Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro has officially named Néstor "Pipo" Gorosito as its new head coach, signing him to a 12-month contract. This appointment follows the departure of Gustavo Álvarez on June 22, marking a new chapter for the Buenos Aires-based football club.

Gorosito, a beloved figure among the club's supporters, has a significant history with San Lorenzo. He previously coached the team for one year, from August 2003 to August 2004. During that tenure, he managed 46 matches, achieving 22 wins, 12 draws, and 12 losses, with a win rate of 56.52%. A notable achievement from that period was securing the runner-up position in the 2003 Apertura tournament.

The club announced Gorosito's return with a tweet paraphrasing a lyric from the Argentine rock band Los Piojos, accompanied by a video montage of his playing and coaching highlights. In the video, Gorosito shares his ambition: "My dream is to win the championship with San Lorenzo. If I coach today, it's for the day I can return and win the championship with San Lorenzo."

Gorosito takes over from interim coach Walter Perazzo, who had been leading practices since Marcelo Culotta began his presidency on June 4. Negotiations with Gorosito reportedly gained momentum after potential candidate Iker Muniain faced bureaucratic hurdles. Gorosito will be joined by his long-time assistants Jorge Borelli and Gustavo Zapata, with whom he shared the pitch as players in 1997. Sebastián Somoza will serve as the physical trainer, having previously worked with Gorosito at Alianza Lima.
