San Lorenzo Declares Municipal Disaster Over Forest Fires

The local government of San Lorenzo, located in Bolivia's Tarija department, has officially declared a municipal disaster due to the escalating forest fires. The decision was made after the fires, affecting both the upper and lower regions of the municipality, overwhelmed the local administration's resources.

In an official statement released on social media, the San Lorenzo Municipal Autonomous Government stated that its technical, operational, and financial capacities were "overwhelmed." The fires have reportedly consumed thousands of hectares, causing significant losses to the region's flora and fauna. The municipality has issued a call for assistance, urging other municipal governments, public and private institutions, organizations, and the general public to contribute to firefighting efforts.

Following the disaster declaration, national authorities arrived in the affected region on Sunday. They reported that the firefighting efforts have successfully brought 80% of the fires under control. This development offers a glimmer of hope amidst the devastation, though the full extent of the damage and the ongoing recovery process remain significant concerns.
