San Telmo se Copa: Wine tour celebrates first anniversary in Buenos Aires

San Telmo is set to host its first anniversary celebration for 'San Telmo se Copa,' a popular wine-tasting event, on July 9. The initiative transforms the historic neighborhood into a vibrant urban wine route, inviting locals and tourists to explore its unique gastronomic offerings.

Participants begin their journey at Grapin, a restaurant specializing in pasta and mushrooms, where they acquire an official 'San Telmo se Copa' glass and a map detailing the participating venues. From there, they embark on a self-guided walking tour, sampling wines by the glass at various bars, restaurants, and wine shops. Sommeliers are on hand at each stop to offer expert guidance on the available labels.

The experience combines tasting, urban tour, and a network of gastronomic spaces that join the proposal with wines by the glass and, in some cases, empanadas at a special price.

The event, which combines urban exploration with wine tasting, also features special offers from participating establishments, such as empanadas at a reduced price. The flexible format allows attendees to curate their own experience, choosing their path based on personal preference, proximity, and desired wine selections. This freedom of movement is central to the event's spirit, encouraging discovery and social connection within the historic district.

'San Telmo se Copa' was conceived in July 2025 by Lenny Lennon, a New Zealand-born restaurateur and a nearly two-decade resident of San Telmo. His vision was to create an accessible way for people to enjoy wine in the streets, foster encounters, and build a stronger network among the area's food and beverage businesses. The event takes place on one Sunday each month, regardless of the weather. Its growing popularity was evident in the last edition, which drew over 1,200 attendees and saw approximately 800 bottles of wine served.

The proposal emerged from a concrete objective: that residents and visitors could drink wine in the streets, cross paths, get to know each other, and, at the same time, strengthen a network among restaurateurs in the area.
