Santiago Giménez makes Porto debut in victory over Moreirense

Santiago Giménez began his Porto career with a 2-1 comeback win over Moreirense, although the Mexican striker was denied a dream debut goal by two late saves.

Giménez entered in the 75th minute, replacing André Silva, his direct competition for the central attacking role. During his short time on the field, he showed movement away from the box and looked eager to get involved rather than waiting only for finishing chances.

His best opportunities came in added time. In the 91st minute, he collected the ball outside the area and fired a left-footed shot across goal, forcing André Ferreira into a diving save. Two minutes later, Giménez created another individual move that took him into the penalty area, but his right-footed effort was also stopped by the Moreirense goalkeeper.

Porto had to fight for the result after the visitors took the lead in the 20th minute. Bednarek equalized in the 37th, and William Gomes completed the turnaround in the 58th minute. Giménez and Porto next face Manchester City in the opening round of the UEFA Champions League on September 8.
