Sanwo-Olu pays N3.1bn compensation to 300 Lagos property owners

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday disbursed over N3.1 billion in compensation to more than 300 property owners. These individuals were affected by government land acquisitions for strategic infrastructure projects across the state.

At the presentation ceremony in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that the compensation demonstrates his administration's commitment to fairness, transparency, and protecting citizens' rights, in accordance with the Land Use Act. He stressed that land acquisition for overriding public interest creates a legal and moral obligation for the government to compensate affected persons fairly, transparently, and promptly.

He assured that all claims underwent due process, including enumeration, professional valuation, and title verification, to ensure legitimate beneficiaries received compensation.

The governor acknowledged the sacrifices of the property owners, assuring them of the government's commitment to compassion and dignity. He advised beneficiaries to invest the compensation wisely for their families' future and not on non-essential items. Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat commended the residents for their patience, reaffirming the government's dedication to compassionate governance.
