Saudi Arabia and Canada: Questions and Answers on Joint Action and Coordination Council

Saudi Arabia and Canada have formalized their bilateral cooperation through a Joint Action Document and the establishment of a Saudi-Canadian Coordination Council. The agreements were signed in Jeddah in the presence of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, marking a significant step in deepening ties between the two nations.

The Joint Action Document serves as the primary framework for future collaboration, identifying priority areas for the next phase of their partnership. This framework is designed to be institutionalized through the new Coordination Council, which will operate under a clear governance structure. The overarching goal is to strengthen the partnership in alignment with each country's national priorities, fostering deeper consultation and reinforcing ties in areas of mutual interest.

Cooperation is envisaged across several key sectors, including political affairs, security and defense, economic and trade relations, investment, and cultural and educational exchanges. The Saudi-Canadian Coordination Council, to be established at the foreign minister level, will be instrumental in developing and implementing strategic initiatives. Its mandate includes ensuring continuous coordination, serving as a unified platform for all existing cooperative efforts, and advancing bilateral relations at all levels to promote shared interests and mutual benefit.
