Saudi Arabia and Kuwait strengthen cooperation on combating desertification and restoring land

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are expanding environmental cooperation through a series of virtual training and technical workshops on desertification and degraded land.

The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, working with Kuwait's Environment Public Authority, is holding five specialized workshops in September and October 2026. The sessions implement a memorandum of understanding between the two countries on environmental protection, rehabilitation and conservation.

The workshops aim to help develop policies and strategies for tackling desertification and reducing land degradation. They will also support decision-making and efforts to protect and sustain ecosystems.

The program will highlight the role of green belts in limiting sand encroachment. It will also present Saudi Arabia's experience in the integrated management of invasive plant species and results achieved in that field. The initiative reflects Saudi Arabia's stated commitment to closer cooperation on environmental protection.
