Saudi Arabia condemns Iran's maritime attacks, welcomes defense alliance activation

Saudi Arabia's cabinet, chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, convened to discuss recent diplomatic engagements aimed at bolstering bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation across various sectors to achieve mutual interests and support regional and international security and stability. A significant development welcomed by the cabinet was the institutional and operational activation of the Saudi-led Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance. This alliance marks a new phase of joint action, focusing on achieving full operational readiness to enhance collective maritime security, protect freedom of navigation in vital waterways, and ensure the continuity of international trade and global supply chains.

The cabinet strongly reiterated its rejection of Iran's repeated attacks on commercial vessels and tankers. These actions were characterized as a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the safety and security of maritime navigation. The statement affirmed that such attacks constitute a grave violation of international laws and norms, defying Security Council resolutions that mandate respect for the freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The cabinet emphasized the importance of condemning any actions that obstruct this freedom.

On bilateral relations, the establishment of the Saudi-Sudanese Coordination Council was viewed as a testament to both nations' commitment to institutionalized joint coordination. This council aims to advance cooperation and integration through tangible initiatives and projects. Furthermore, the cabinet commended Saudi Arabia's successful presidency of the 16th UNCCD Conference of the Parties (COP16). The conference launched international partnerships and initiatives focused on combating land degradation, desertification, and drought, while also enhancing water and food security and supporting climate adaptation. The use of innovative solutions for environmental protection and sustainable development was also highlighted.

In recognition of World Humanitarian Day, the cabinet expressed pride in Saudi Arabia's leading humanitarian role and its position among the world's top donor nations. This reflects the Kingdom's long-standing commitment to generosity and providing aid and disaster relief globally. Domestically, the cabinet reviewed achievements in the education sector as the new academic year approaches, noting improvements in efficiency, educational institutions, student expertise, teacher capabilities, and learning environments. These efforts align with Saudi Vision 2030 goals for human capital development.
