Saudi Arabia leads world in ICT Development Index, sustainability report reveals

Saudi Arabia has secured the first position globally in the International Telecommunication Union’s ICT Development Index (IDI), a significant national accomplishment detailed in the fifth edition of the 2026 Sustainability Report for the Communications, Space and Technology Sector. The report, issued by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) in partnership with the ITU and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, operates under the theme “A Sustainable Present for an Empowered Future.”

The report underscores Riyadh's growing influence in the digital sphere, highlighted by its successful hosting of the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-25). The symposium focused on "Regulation for Sustainable Digital Development" and culminated in the issuance of the “Riyadh Outcomes for Innovative Regulation.” This event signals Saudi Arabia's commitment to shaping global dialogue on digital governance and sustainable development.

Further demonstrating its dedication to sustainability and the circular economy, Saudi Arabia has also launched a global guide for developing e-waste policies and regulations. This initiative aims to bolster e-waste management practices and strengthen the circular economy. Additionally, the Kingdom has joined the board of directors for the International Telecommunication Union, reinforcing its role in international telecommunications policy and development.
