Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Commitment to Global Water and Sanitation Goal at UN Forum

Saudi Arabia used its participation in the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development to underscore its dedication to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6, which focuses on water and sanitation. The Kingdom presented its integrated approach to water resources management, emphasizing efficiency improvements, enhanced water security, and the adoption of modern technologies.

During the forum, Saudi Arabia's Deputy Minister for Water, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Shaibani, detailed the nation's progress in developing a sustainable water sector. He pointed to tangible advancements in water management, the expansion of water and sanitation services, and strengthened institutional governance, all contributing to a more efficient water supply chain and long-term resource sustainability.

Furthermore, the upcoming hosting of the 11th World Water Forum in Riyadh in 2027 was presented as a key opportunity to drive international dialogue and translate global commitments into actionable solutions for water security.

The Kingdom's international initiatives to strengthen global cooperation in the water sector, foremost among them the Global Water Organization, which aims to promote cooperation, facilitate knowledge exchange, and accelerate sustainable solutions to global water challenges.

On the sidelines of the forum, Saudi officials engaged in bilateral meetings with UN representatives, international organizations, and private sector partners. These discussions aimed to deepen international cooperation, share expertise, and coordinate efforts toward achieving the SDGs, alongside preparations for the 2027 World Water Forum.
