Saudi Arabia Strongly Condemns Houthi Claims Accusing the Kingdom of Besieging the Yemeni People

Saudi Arabia has issued a strong condemnation of recent accusations by the Houthi militia, which alleged the Kingdom was besieging the Yemeni people and imposing a maritime blockade. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that these claims are false and an attempt by the Houthis to deflect responsibility for Yemen's economic challenges and internal discontent.

The Kingdom has worked over the past years with the legitimate government of Yemen to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people through development projects, support for the Yemeni government’s budget, and the provision of petroleum derivatives to operate power plants.

In a statement, the ministry detailed Saudi Arabia's extensive efforts over the years to alleviate suffering in Yemen. These include development projects, financial support for the Yemeni government's budget, and providing fuel for power plants. The statement noted that ports in northern Yemen received over 300 ships carrying essential goods and fuel in the first half of 2026, while adhering to UN Security Council Resolution 2216, which prohibits arms smuggling.

The ministry also recalled a pattern of Houthi attacks, citing the December 2020 Aden Airport bombing and subsequent attacks on oil export ports in southern Yemen. These actions, the statement argued, aimed to cripple the government's revenue streams and impact salary payments. Furthermore, the Houthis have seized aircraft carrying Yemeni pilgrims and engaged in actions that exacerbate the suffering of the Yemeni people and worsen the economic situation.

The militia is now attempting to deflect responsibility for the economic challenges and growing public discontent it faces by fabricating false accusations against the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia affirmed its commitment to achieving peace in Yemen and supporting UN initiatives, contrasting this with the Houthi militia's alleged refusal to accept peace roadmaps and their engagement in regional conflicts. The Kingdom accused the Houthis of prolonging the conflict to serve their own agenda and objectives, exacerbating the suffering of the Yemeni population.
