Saudi-Backed Initiative Trains Yemeni Teachers in Digital Skills

A new initiative backed by Saudi Arabia aims to enhance the digital capabilities of Yemeni teachers, a move designed to modernize the country's education system. The "Digital Empowerment for Yemeni Teachers" project is being spearheaded by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) in collaboration with King Abdulaziz University's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center.

The program will provide training to 500 male and female teachers across five Yemeni governorates: Aden, Abyan, Hadramawt, Al-Mahra, and Socotra. Utilizing a blended learning approach that combines in-person sessions with remote videoconferencing, the project ensures broad participation despite geographical challenges. The curriculum is specifically designed to help teachers integrate digital technologies into their lessons, improve educational content, and refine their teaching methods.

Key components of the training include the application of artificial intelligence for creating subject-specific content and the principles of digital instructional design. Teachers will learn to develop interactive educational materials, foster stronger digital learning environments, and increase student engagement. This focus on modern digital tools and practices is intended to equip Yemen's educators to keep pace with rapid technological advancements.

The initiative underscores SDRPY's commitment to human development in Yemen, viewing education as fundamental to sustainable progress and institutional growth. This project builds upon SDRPY's extensive record of support for Yemen's education sector, which includes constructing and equipping schools, developing universities, and establishing various educational institutions. Since its inception, SDRPY has completed 287 projects across eight vital sectors in Yemen, contributing to stability and the improvement of essential services.
