Saudi vessel attacked in Red Sea, national shipping company confirms following Houthi claims

A Saudi national shipping company confirmed its vessel was attacked in the Red Sea on Monday, stating that all crew members were safe and no injuries were reported. The confirmation came after Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis claimed responsibility for attacking a ship off the Saudi port city of Yanbu.

The Saudi Amzan ship was attacked in the Red Sea on Monday, Saudi Arabia's national shipping company Bahri confirmed in a statement, noting that all crew members were safe and no injuries had been reported.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency had earlier reported that a tanker was struck by an unknown projectile 63 nautical miles west of Yanbu. The agency also confirmed that all crew were safe and there was no environmental impact.

Yanbu is Saudi Arabia's primary oil port on the Red Sea, handling millions of barrels daily and serving as a crucial route for Saudi oil, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. Shipping from Yanbu has faced disruptions since the Houthis declared a blockade on Saudi-linked vessels in the Red Sea last month. The Houthis have previously conducted attacks on Saudi oil facilities and shipping in the Red Sea, including a claimed targeting of Saudi oil giant Aramco facilities in Yanbu in July.
