Saxony-Anhalt election: How the 83 lawmakers entered the state parliament

Saxony-Anhalt's future state parliament will have 83 elected members. Forty-one won direct constituency mandates, while 42 will enter through their parties' state lists, according to an overview from the state returning officer based on preliminary results.

The AfD will form the largest parliamentary group with 39 lawmakers. The CDU will have 15 seats, while the SPD, Greens and Left will each hold eight. The BSW will have five representatives.

Women account for only 18 of the elected lawmakers, or 21.7% of the parliament. AfD candidates won direct mandates in 38 of the state's 41 constituencies. Reiner Kretschmann recorded the strongest result, winning 55.63% in Eisleben, followed by Hans-Thomas Tillschneider, who won 54.85% in Querfurt.

Three Left candidates also won direct seats: Mustafa Groener in Magdeburg II, Gitta Susann Hartenstein-Wiermann in Halle II, and Jannik-Loris Balint in Halle III.

The result marks a sharp change from the 2021 state election, when the CDU won 40 direct mandates and the AfD won one. This time, no CDU candidate won a constituency outright. Minister-President Sven Schulze received 31.7% of the first votes in Magdeburg III, behind AfD candidate Christian Mertens on 35.2%. Mertens entered parliament directly, while Schulze won a seat as the CDU's lead candidate on the state list.
