Sayyid Badr meets UK counterpart, discusses ongoing conflict in the region

Oman's Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, held a significant meeting with Ed Miliband, the United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs. The encounter took place in Manila, on the sidelines of a key ministerial meeting commemorating the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The discussions between the two ministers centered on enhancing the long-standing strategic relationship between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom. Both parties aimed to build upon existing cooperation across various areas of shared priority, signaling a commitment to deepening their bilateral ties.

A primary focus of the conversation was the ongoing conflict in the region. The ministers exchanged views on diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a cessation of hostilities and facilitating the resumption of negotiations. This highlights the shared concern over regional stability and the commitment to finding peaceful resolutions.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed the critical issue of restoring safety and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with international law. This underscores the importance of this vital waterway for global trade and security. The meeting was attended by Nasser Almanwari, Oman’s Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines, and other officials from both nations.
