SC Freiburg projects record revenue, nearing 200 million euro mark

SC Freiburg is set to announce a record revenue for the 2025/2026 season, surpassing the 200 million euro mark, according to Finance Director Oliver Leki. This financial milestone follows an "exceptionally successful business year" in 2023/2024, where the club generated 203.1 million euros. Leki highlighted that the club's equity has been built through internally generated profits, not external funding.

The club's economic success is bolstered by strong sporting achievements, including reaching the Europa League final and the DFB-Pokal semi-finals. A significant financial boost comes from the record transfer of Swiss international Johan Manzambi to Aston Villa, potentially worth up to 70 million euros. This eclipses previous record sales of Kevin Schade and Merlin Röhl, each valued at 25 million euros.

However, the club is navigating complexities in player movements. Sporting Director Jochen Saier acknowledged the club anticipated Manzambi's transfer but noted that the World Cup is influencing decisions regarding goalkeeper Noah Atubolu. The 24-year-old Atubolu, who was the previous first-choice goalkeeper, wishes to leave, but a suitable buyer has not yet been found. Freiburg has already secured Mio Backhaus from Werder Bremen as their new number one.
