Scheffler grouped with defending champion Spaun and Howell at U.S. Open

World number one Scottie Scheffler is set to begin his quest for a career Grand Slam at the U.S. Open, grouped with defending champion J.J. Spaun and amateur Mason Howell. Their opening round tee time is scheduled for Thursday at 8:14 a.m. ET, commencing from the first hole at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.

Scheffler, a two-time Masters champion, has already secured victories at last year's PGA Championship and the British Open. This U.S. Open marks his first attempt to join an elite group of golfers, including Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Ben Hogan, and Gene Sarazen, who have won all four major championships.

Other notable pairings include Australian Adam Scott, playing in his 100th consecutive major, who will tee off with Harris English and Nick Taylor. Rory McIlroy, the reigning Masters champion, is scheduled to play with Ludvig Aberg and Tommy Fleetwood, starting from the 10th tee at 7:52 a.m. Former U.S. Open champion Jon Rahm, one of 13 LIV Golf participants in the field, will play alongside Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth, with their tee time set for 2:09 p.m.

Bryson DeChambeau, another LIV Golf competitor and a two-time major winner, will be looking to regain his major form when he starts at 1:25 p.m. with Viktor Hovland and 2022 U.S. Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick. The 156-player field will compete across the year's third major championship.
