Schlein's demand follows a crucial vote on amendments to the electoral law, where the majority narrowly avoided defeat by a single vote.

"Take note of the failure and go home," Schlein stated after the vote. She accused Meloni of "arrogance" and of being willing to "crush the power of other women" to protect her own position. The vote on preferential voting amendments resulted in 188 votes in favor and 187 against, highlighting a significant vulnerability for the ruling coalition.
