School abductions: Tinubu dispatches high-powered delegation to Oyo

A high-level presidential delegation has arrived in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, in response to the recent abduction of pupils and teachers from schools in the Esiele and Yawota communities. The incident, which saw armed individuals raid Baptist Nursery and Primary School and other locations, has caused widespread concern across Nigeria.

The delegation is headed by Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President. It also includes key security figures such as National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Tunde Disu, and Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa. The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, and Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications, Sunday Dare, are also part of the group.

Their mission is to visit the affected communities and assess the situation following the abduction of approximately 46 pupils and teachers. President Bola Tinubu has reportedly activated coordinated efforts to secure the victims' release and bring the perpetrators to justice. Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, confirmed the delegation's arrival and the President's directive for intensified rescue operations.

Security agencies are actively engaged in rescue efforts, though an official update on the abductees' whereabouts has not yet been released. The abduction has heightened anxiety among residents and relatives, who are appealing for the safe return of those in captivity. The government's swift dispatch of a high-powered delegation underscores the seriousness with which the incident is being treated.
