SCL Group Campaign Aims to Support Young Adults Transitioning to Independence

Young adults leaving institutional care in South Korea face immediate survival challenges, with "what to eat today" becoming a pressing concern. SCL Group has launched a campaign, "Summer Together," in partnership with the Gyeonggi Provincial Support Center for Independent Youths, to provide essential support.

The campaign, which runs until August 31, seeks donations through the Kakao Together platform. Funds raised will provide food kits and living expenses for these "independent youths." SCL Group employees will also directly deliver goods and offer encouragement to the young adults embarking on their new lives.

It is the natural role of a company to provide a strong safety net for independent youths, who must become adults at an early age, so they can feel the warmth of our society and not lose hope.

According to the Gyeonggi Provincial Support Center, the difficulties faced by these youths vary by the time since their protection ended. The first year is dominated by securing housing and managing daily life. Subsequent years involve adapting to society and workplaces, with financial independence becoming a major hurdle by the fifth year, when subsidies often cease.

"Independent youths face complex challenges, not just one issue, but a combination of housing, finances, psychological well-being, and social adaptation," said a center representative. "The support needed also differs depending on how long they have been independent."

Meal preparation is another significant challenge. Many youths, despite receiving some training, are not fully prepared for independent living and rely heavily on eating out or ordering delivery. This impacts both their health and finances. The "Summer Together" campaign specifically focuses on food kits to help stabilize their meals and alleviate financial burdens.

He pledged continued support for their growth into healthy members of society.

Choi Seo-hyun, director of the Gyeonggi Provincial Support Center, emphasized the need for belief and encouragement, not just financial aid. "We will continue to provide various support with the local community so that youths can achieve healthy independence," she said.
