Scotland Coach Steve Clarke Resigns After Euro 2024 Exit

Steve Clarke has stepped down as Scotland's head coach after the national team's elimination from the European Championship. The Scottish Football Association (SFA) confirmed his resignation on Thursday, stating that Clarke, considered one of Scotland's most successful national team managers, has ended his seven-year association with the team.

The departure comes as a surprise, particularly as Clarke had signed a contract extension just one month ago, which was set to keep him in charge until 2026. His resignation follows Scotland's failure to advance from the group stage of the tournament, missing out on a potential "wild card" spot for third-placed teams.

Clarke took charge of the Scottish national team in May 2019. During his tenure, he guided Scotland to their first major tournament qualification in 23 years by securing a place in Euro 2020. He also led the team to qualification for Euro 2024.

His coaching career in Scotland also includes spells managing Kilmarnock and St. Mirren before taking the national team reins. The SFA acknowledged his significant contributions and the successful period under his leadership, which included achieving historic qualifications for major tournaments.
