Scottish Golfer Wins Inaugural Estonian Challenge; Estonians Make History

Scottish golfer Rory Franssen has claimed victory at the first-ever Infortar Estonian Challenge, a HotelPlanner Tour event held at the Estonian Golf & Country Club in Jõelähtme. This marks Franssen's maiden win at this professional level and comes with a significant prize of 48,000 euros.

The 27-year-old Franssen arrived in Estonia with modest expectations. While he won three tournaments on his home Tartan Pro Tour last season, securing his place on the HotelPlanner Tour, his performance had been less stellar this season. Prior to the Estonian event, he had earned approximately 4,000 euros in prize money across 11 tour stages.

Franssen's performance improved throughout the tournament. After an opening round of three under par, a strong second round of 67 strokes (five under par) propelled him into contention. He started the final day among the leaders and, despite a close contest, crucial birdies on the 11th and 12th holes, followed by a birdie on the 16th while his closest competitor, England's Andrew Wilson, bogeyed the next, secured the win for the Scotsman.

Beyond Franssen's triumph, the tournament was historic for Estonian golf. Markus Varjun, Kevin Christopher Jegers, and Ralf Johan Kivi all achieved a significant milestone by making the cut at a HotelPlanner Tour event for the first time. This achievement not only marks a new chapter for Estonian golf but also earned them world ranking points, prize money, and valuable season points on the tour.

Markus Varjun finished as the best-placed Estonian, sharing 31st place with a score of seven under par, earning him 15.2 ranking points and 2,550 euros. Jegers and Kivi tied for 57th place at two under par, each receiving 960 euros and 6.4 season points. The HotelPlanner Tour continues next week with the Scottish Challenge, featuring several Estonian players.
