Sean Ono Lennon becomes a father for the first time, naming his son Aurelius

Sean Ono Lennon announced on Sept. 1 that he and Charlotte Kemp Muhl had become parents to a boy named Aurelius. His brief social media message celebrated the arrival with the words, “We created a little human! His name is Aurelius! Thank you!”

Aurelius is a Latin name associated with gold or something gilded. The newborn is the grandson of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, giving the family another connection to one of music’s most recognizable legacies.

A photograph showed the new family dressed in black and white. Sean Ono Lennon, wearing a black cap and glasses with his long hair visible, appeared strikingly similar to his father. Kemp Muhl wore a white blouse, while the baby appeared in a black-and-white striped bodysuit.

Her later posts suggested that the first days with the newborn have brought the usual strain as well as excitement. Kemp Muhl joked about sleep deprivation and asked for advice on burping the baby. She also wrote, “Meconium is insane.”

Beatles music was not among the sounds she listed for Aurelius. Instead, she said she had played him Aphex Twin and Stravinsky, combining electronic music with neoclassical compositions. John Lennon is no longer alive to meet his grandson, while 93-year-old Yoko Ono has now become a grandmother for the first time.
