Search for martyrs' remains continues, expanding to new areas

Vietnamese military units are intensifying their search for and collection of martyrs' remains, expanding operations at Ho Chi Minh City's Lê Thị Riêng Park and various locations in Đồng Nai province. The ongoing efforts are part of a national campaign to identify and honor fallen soldiers.

At Lê Thị Riêng Park, excavation teams are meticulously working through soil layers. On August 3 alone, nearly 300 cubic meters of earth were moved from a trench in the park's B area. This painstaking process led to the discovery and collection of 14 additional sets of remains. Four of these sets were found with personal effects, which will aid in identifying the soldiers' identities and units.

Since the search began on June 23, a total of 182 sets of remains have been recovered at Lê Thị Riêng Park. These include 160 individual burials and 22 remains found in four mass graves. The operation involves heavy machinery for soil removal, but manual excavation is employed when potential remains or artifacts are detected to ensure careful handling.

Meanwhile, in Minh Đức commune, Đồng Nai province, the K72 team has also expanded its search area. Since July 14, they have collected 26 sets of remains and hundreds of artifacts. Notably, the K72 team recently returned from a mission in Cambodia and, despite plans for leave, soldiers have prioritized this national duty, demonstrating their commitment to the campaign.

After being briefed by superiors, all officers and soldiers have temporarily suspended their leave to focus on accelerating the search and collection of martyrs' remains.
