Seattle's Speier gets 3-game ban for bench-clearing brawl

Seattle Mariners pitcher Gabe Speier will miss three games after being ejected for his role in a bench-clearing incident during a recent game against the Detroit Tigers.

Manager Danse Wilson also faces a one-game suspension for aggressively protesting Speier's ejection. Both Speier and Wilson will also incur undisclosed fines from Major League Baseball.

The altercation erupted in the eighth inning. Speier, the Mariners' second pitcher of the game, hit Detroit's Glaber Torres with a 96.3 mph fastball to the left thigh. This incident marked the fifth hit batter of the game, following three instances by Seattle starter Bryan Woo and one by Detroit reliever Emmanuel De Jesus.

Following Speier's pitch, Torres exchanged words with Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh, which quickly escalated into both teams' dugouts emptying onto the field. After deliberation, umpires ejected Speier, and Wilson was then ejected for his heated reaction.
