Second-hand office furniture for startups: Kringloopwinkel Zuid-West-Vlaanderen launches 'Buroo'

Kringloopwinkel Zuid-West-Vlaanderen has introduced 'Buroo,' an innovative circular concept focused on providing quality, second-hand, and refurbished office furniture. This initiative, stemming from the Deltagroep thrift store, offers a sustainable approach to managing furniture from vacant offices and discarded workstations.

The Kringloopwinkel Zuid-West-Vlaanderen received large volumes of office furniture, often during moves, closures, or reconfigurations. Much of that office furniture unfortunately ended up on the waste heap.

Ellen De Craemer, director of Kringloopwinkel, explained that the store had received numerous requests over the years from companies, governments, and organizations needing to clear large volumes of office furniture during moves, closures, or reconfigurations. "Much of that office furniture unfortunately ended up on the waste heap," she noted.

To address this issue, Kringloopwinkel decided to develop a dedicated circular process. "We established a separate circular pathway," De Craemer continued, "with adapted storage, a webshop, a showroom, and a professional inventory service. The Buroo assortment includes desks, office and conference chairs, cabinets, conference tables, and other furniture that can serve as storage or enhance office aesthetics."

While Buroo is open to everyone, its primary target audience is beginning entrepreneurs. "They are starting with a low budget and are looking for affordable materials," De Craemer stated. She emphasized that their refurbished items offer design and functionality comparable to new furniture. "When second-hand office furniture is professionally selected, inspected, and reused, it creates a product that is often barely distinguishable from new furniture," she added.

But we are primarily targeting beginning entrepreneurs, because they start with a low budget and are looking for affordable material. We offer that with our refurbishments, which in terms of design and possibility are not inferior to the materials sold as new.

De Craemer concluded, "The workplace of the future, with Buroo, will henceforth be not only flexible and people-oriented but also circular." The Buroo concept is currently being showcased at the Kiosk on Kortrijk's Graanmarkt until June 30th through a special installation.
