Second victim dies after Ho Chi Minh City kiosk fire

A woman injured in a kiosk fire in Ho Chi Minh City has died from severe burns, bringing the death toll to two. Her husband, identified as T.V.T., 40, died at the scene of the fire on September 5.

The fire broke out at about 1:55 a.m. at a grocery and fruit and vegetable kiosk at 10/29B TTN12 Street in Đông Hưng Thuận Ward. Local police, military personnel, the ward’s Vietnam Fatherland Front committee and neighborhood security officers responded, alongside firefighters and rescue teams from Ho Chi Minh City police. Authorities said they extinguished the blaze by 2:10 a.m.

The man’s wife, Đ.T.N., also 40, and their 16-year-old daughter, T.P.U., were taken to Cho Ray Hospital. Despite doctors’ efforts, the mother later died because her burns were too severe. The daughter was injured in the fire.

Representatives of the ward authorities visited the family at the hospital and initially provided 22 million dong in assistance. Local authorities and organizations are helping the family arrange funeral services. Đông Hưng Thuận police are investigating the scene with the city’s criminal police, forensic technicians and fire prevention and rescue police.
