Security concerns raised over Qatar's gifted Air Force One to Trump

Concerns are mounting over the security of a lavish new Air Force One, a Boeing 747-8 gifted to President Donald Trump by Qatar, with aviation and security experts warning it may lack crucial defensive capabilities. The aircraft, received by Trump earlier this month, reportedly does not possess the same security measures as the previous Air Force One. This has led to a congressional inquiry demanding the administration disclose the plane's technical specifications and confirm its compliance with presidential transport safety standards. Lawmakers emphasized the paramount importance of the aircraft's protection for the president and White House staff. However, the Trump administration has pushed back against these assertions. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung issued a statement asserting that the new Air Force One is a "next-generation aircraft" equipped with "the highest level of security protocols." He added that while Trump has "many enemies" targeting him, the administration employs "all tools at our disposal, including distraction and deception tactics" to counter threats. Despite the White House's assurances, a previous administration statement acknowledged that while the aircraft is capable of transporting the president, it might not have all the standard Air Force One equipment. The Air Force had previously explained that the plane underwent significant modifications to meet presidential standards, though details on its defense systems, such as electronic countermeasures, radar interference capabilities, and missile-deflecting devices, remain undisclosed. The intention is for this Qatari-donated Boeing to serve as a temporary replacement until new models are delivered in 2028.
