Security forces kill three bandits, rescue businessman in Kwara

Security operatives in Kwara State foiled an attack on Aboki Community in Kaiama Local Government Area, neutralizing three suspected bandits and rescuing a kidnapped businessman late Tuesday night.

The assailants invaded the community around 10:15 pm, firing indiscriminately and abducting Tuhkur Sanni, a local businessman. The attack claimed the life of one resident, Musa. Residents reported that the gunmen operated for about 15 minutes, causing panic and forcing people to flee.

Community leaders alerted security agencies, prompting a swift response from military personnel and other operatives. A gun battle ensued, leading to the rescue of Sanni, who sustained injuries and was hospitalized. "The military responded immediately after receiving the distress call and engaged them. They were able to rescue the kidnapped victim, although he sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital," said Aliyyu Ahmad, a resident.

Authorities confirmed that three of the four attackers were killed during the operation. Ahmad suggested the businessman was the primary target. He attributed the persistent insecurity in Kaiama to its location near the Kainji Lake National Park and the Republic of Benin, which provide escape routes for criminal groups. He appealed for the expedited establishment of an approved military battalion in Kaiama to enhance security and urged the government to reclaim forest reserves from criminals.
