Security guard killed in attack on former AJK PM Tanveer Ilyas's convoy in Poonch district

A security guard was killed and others injured when the convoy of former Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) prime minister Tanveer Ilyas came under fire in the Poonch district on Friday. The attack occurred as Ilyas's convoy traveled through his native constituency in the Tain-Dhalkot area.

Ilyas remained unharmed and in a video message released later in the day, he alleged that the attack had been carried out by armed members of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), a claim that could not be independently verified.

Muhammad Asif, a retired commando serving as one of Ilyas's security guards, was shot in the head while reportedly shielding the former premier. He succumbed to his injuries en route to a hospital in Rawalpindi. Ilyas himself was unharmed.

On his insistence, officials informed him that if he was determined to undertake the visit, he would have to do so at his own risk.

In a video message, Ilyas alleged that the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) was responsible for the attack, though this claim could not be independently verified, and the group had not immediately responded. Officials had advised Ilyas against the visit to his native constituency due to the prevailing law-and-order situation, but he proceeded at his own risk.
