Security operatives kill four gunmen, recover bombs - Official

Security operatives in Anambra State have killed four gunmen during a joint operation targeting hoodlums along Ogboji–Ajalli Road in Orumba South Local Government Area. The confrontation took place on Tuesday, according to a statement by Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson for Anambra State.

During the operation, security forces neutralized four members of the armed gang and recovered a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosive devices. The police-led team was conducting a visibility and confidence-building patrol following intelligence about heavily armed individuals suspected of belonging to a secessionist armed group traveling in a Toyota Sienna vehicle.

Preliminary investigations suggest that other gang members escaped into the surrounding bushes with injuries. The Joint Security Team has intensified its operations in the area, conducting extensive searches to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional equipment. The recovered items include a General Purpose Machine Gun with ammunition, two AK-47 rifles, magazines, numerous rounds of ammunition, and four undetonated Improvised Explosive Devices.

Further recovered items included police camouflage uniforms, a white Toyota Sienna bus, mobile phones, a laptop, a Point-of-Sale machine, power banks, charms, live cartridges, and identification cards belonging to various individuals. The Anambra State police authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustained, intelligence-led operations against criminal elements terrorizing the state, in collaboration with other security agencies.
