Sejong University Completes Intensive Webtoon Camp to Build Practical Creative Skills

Sixteen aspiring webtoon creators spent five nights and six days focused on developing their work at Sejong University’s intensive “Cartoon Creation Hell Camp.”

The university’s Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and Research Institute for Convergence Content Industries held the camp from July 27 to Aug. 1 at the Kobaco Training Center in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province. The program formed part of the Korea Creative Content Agency’s 2026 Content Creative Talent Accompaniment Project.

Participants developed manuscripts according to the stage of each project. At a full workshop on July 31, dedicated mentors reviewed stories, characters, directing and artwork, while also examining whether the projects could be serialized. The program focused not only on making the works, but on testing their competitiveness and future potential in the content market.

The webtoon industry is now demanding new skills and response strategies from creators as changes in the market environment and platform structure combine with the spread of generative AI.

Mentors and industry professionals identified strengths and areas for improvement in each project. Their practical feedback was intended to help participants continue creating after the program, submit work to platforms and develop specific strategies for serialization and commercialization.

Sejong has been selected as an implementing institution for the talent program 11 times since 2013. It will continue providing dedicated mentoring, advice on AI technology, copyright and contract training, and work-pitching consultations through November. A final showcase will present the mentees’ works and intellectual property to webtoon platforms, production companies and agencies, with support for platform submissions, serialization contracts and IP commercialization.

This year, through practical programs including the Cartoon Creation Hell Camp for 16 mentees, we will strengthen capabilities required in the field, such as using AI technology, commercializing IP and connecting with platforms, while supporting practical and sustainable entry into the market.
