Selimiye, Threatened by a Marina, Receives First Good News: Project Canceled

Selimiye, a picturesque neighborhood in Marmaris, Muğla, has received welcome news as the controversial marina project planned for its shores has been halted. The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has officially terminated the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for a proposed marina that would have accommodated 450 yachts.

The project faced significant opposition due to its planned location within a protected area. This environmental sensitivity was a key factor in the decision. Adding to the project's challenges, the Muğla Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism also delivered a negative opinion, further undermining the marina's viability.

This development is seen as a victory for local residents and environmental advocates who had expressed concerns about the potential impact of such a large-scale development on Selimiye's natural beauty and delicate ecosystem. The termination of the EIA process effectively cancels the marina project, preserving the area's protected status and its existing character.
