Seoul City University's Environmental Health Program for Youth Nears Conclusion Amid Positive Reception

Seoul City University's Environmental Health Center is concluding its 'Youth Environmental Health Smart Exploration Life' program, an initiative designed for elementary school students. The program, held at Sadang Elementary School, is part of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's '2026 Seoul-type After-School Care Program.'

Over four sessions, students have been learning about environmental health, focusing on everyday environmental hazards. The curriculum covers topics such as the causes and health impacts of fine dust, proper mask-wearing techniques, and understanding household chemicals. A key component of the program is the 'One Health' concept, which emphasizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and ecosystem health.

The final session will delve into climate change, infectious diseases, and the 'One Health' framework. Students will engage in practical activities like 'One Health Ecosystem Impact Mapping' and discussions, fostering a deeper understanding of environmental health and potential career paths. Professor Choi Jin-hee, head of the Environmental Health Center, expressed the program's significance, stating, "It is meaningful to provide beneficial environmental health education to Sadang Elementary School students through the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's Seoul-type after-school care program." The center is committed to helping youth understand environmental health, protect their own health based on scientific facts, and develop a proper 'One Health' perspective.

The Environmental Health Center at Seoul City University is designated by the Ministry of Environment and Climate as a specialized institution for nurturing environmental health professionals. It actively engages in scientific communication about environmental toxicology and health for university students, youth, and the general public.
