Seoul finds 8cm height difference on Dongjak Bridge approach, city assures safety amid wider inspection

Seoul city officials are investigating a nearly 8-centimeter height difference found on the approach road to the Dongjak Bridge, connecting Ichon-dong in Yongsan-gu and Dongjak-dong in Dongjak-gu. This discovery comes shortly after a similar 9-centimeter height difference was reported on the southern approach of the Seongsu Bridge earlier this month, raising concerns about the condition of the city's aging infrastructure.

Despite the visible gap, the Seoul Metropolitan Government insists that the bridges remain structurally sound. White styrofoam pieces are visible in the concrete gap, and a sign indicating "structure measurement for safety verification" is posted. The height difference on Dongjak Bridge was initially detected during a detailed safety inspection in 2023 and has been under periodic review.

Officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Bridge Safety Division confirmed that a comprehensive survey of all Han River bridge approaches is underway. The Dongjak Bridge's height difference, like the one on Seongsu Bridge, occurs at the connection point between the bridge structure and the embankment road. While assuring the public of safety, the city's proactive inspection aims to prevent any potential issues before they escalate.
