Seoul National University Adopts 'ChatGPT Edu' for Free AI Support

Seoul National University (SNU) is embracing artificial intelligence in education and research by implementing 'ChatGPT Edu', a generative AI service specifically designed for educational institutions. The university announced the adoption of this service on May 1st, making it available free of charge to all faculty, students, and staff.

The primary goal of this initiative is to reduce the 'AI gap' by ensuring equitable access to cutting-edge AI technologies. ChatGPT Edu offers specialized features tailored for education and research, including lecture material generation and personalized tutoring. This move signifies SNU's commitment to fostering an AI-inclusive environment within the university.

Beyond ChatGPT Edu, SNU will also provide access to AI-powered coding tools like Codex and the ChatGPT application programming interface (API). This comprehensive approach aims to embed AI utilization across all university departments and functions, positioning SNU at the forefront of AI transformation (AX).

Furthermore, Seoul National University intends to strengthen its global research collaborations with OpenAI. Go Gil-gon, head of SNU's Informationization Headquarters, expressed the university's ambition to lead in AI transformation, stating, "South Korea will be the world's best..." This initiative underscores SNU's strategic vision to leverage AI for academic and research excellence on a global scale.
