Seoul Swelters as Temperatures Hit 39.2 Degrees Celsius

Seoul was engulfed in sweltering heat on August 4, as temperatures soared across the capital. The Gangnam district recorded a peak temperature of 39.2 degrees Celsius, with the perceived temperature reaching 38.8 degrees. Other areas, including Guro (39.0C), Gangseo (38.3C), and Hyeonchungwon (38.3C), also experienced intense heat, with many districts exceeding 38 degrees Celsius. The official weather station in Jongno-gu registered 36.8 degrees Celsius, lower than the district-level perceived temperatures.

Nationwide, the highest temperature was recorded in Gwangju, South Jeolla Province, where Chosun University reached 39.6 degrees Celsius. Nearby areas like Gwangyang-eup (38.7C) and Gwangju city (38.6C) also saw very high temperatures. The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts that the perceived temperature will remain around 35 degrees Celsius in most regions for the time being, urging caution against the heat.
