Seoul to host world fireworks festival on Sept. 5 with enhanced safety measures

Seoul will light up the night sky on September 5 with the 'Hanwha Seoul World Fireworks Festival 2026' at Yeouido Hangang Park. This year's event has been moved up from its usual late September slot to early September to better align with the Chuseok holiday period and capitalize on anticipated foreign tourist interest.

Organizers are prioritizing safety, deploying a record-breaking 5,000 personnel for crowd control and order maintenance. This significant increase in staff will be supported by advanced technologies, including real-time crowd density monitoring in partnership with telecommunication companies. A joint command center with city officials, fire services, and police will ensure comprehensive on-site safety management.

We will deploy the largest number of safety management and order personnel in the event's history, totaling over 5,000 people, to focus on overall safety management.

The festival's theme this year is 'Find Your Light,' aiming to express the diverse ways people shine through a spectrum of colors. Spectators can anticipate dazzling displays from fireworks teams representing South Korea, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Hanwha's own team will present a finale inspired by Van Gogh's 'Starry Night,' featuring unique tower and bridge effects.

Beyond the pyrotechnics, Hanwha is collaborating with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Tourism Organization to create a festive atmosphere. Various viewing areas and participatory events are planned along the Han River. Following the event, a large contingent of Hanwha employee volunteers will conduct a cleanup campaign, promoting a 'trash-free fireworks festival' culture, with plans for recycling and online live streaming for those unable to attend in person.
