Serbia: 49 Drivers Caught for Drunk Driving Over Weekend in Niš

Authorities in Niš, Serbia, took strong action against impaired driving over the weekend, removing 49 drivers from the road due to alcohol consumption and one for operating under the influence of psychoactive substances. The crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety in the region.

Among those stopped were drivers with alarmingly high blood alcohol content. A 46-year-old moped rider was found to have 3.04 permille of alcohol in his system, while a 63-year-old driver of an Opel in the vicinity of Niš registered 2.23 permille. Both face charges for reckless driving.

Other significant alcohol-related stops included a sixty-year-old driving an Opel with 1.84 permille and a twenty-nine-year-old driving a Mazda with 1.55 permille. Additionally, drivers in Niš and surrounding areas were apprehended with levels of 1.49 and 1.26 permille, respectively. A driver in Niška Banja was also stopped with 1.36 permille.

In a separate incident, a 26-year-old Volkswagen driver tested positive for cocaine. All drivers detained for these offenses are being held and will face appropriate legal charges. Overall, the Niš Police Department sanctioned 1,012 drivers for various traffic offenses throughout the weekend.
