Serbia: 889 Children Receive Alimony Fund Support

In Serbia, 889 children are now receiving timely support through the Alimentation Fund, according to Jelena Žarić Kovačević, the Minister for Family Welfare and Demography. Since the state began guaranteeing alimony payments, a total of 54,209,260 dinars has been disbursed. The minister noted that 77 fathers are currently receiving alimony, and payments are also being made for 44 children who have reached adulthood but are still pursuing regular education. These efforts are part of broader government initiatives aimed at improving Serbia's demographic outlook. Subsidies for purchasing a first home upon the birth of a child have already enabled 1,700 mothers to raise their children in their own homes. Prime Minister Đura Macut discussed these measures with Minister Milan Krkobabić, emphasizing that joint initiatives between their ministries could further boost demographic improvements. Krkobabić highlighted the success of programs focused on renovating cultural centers and facilitating the purchase of rural households, reporting significant interest from young people. To date, 4,450 rural houses have been allocated through these programs, with a large number of recipients being highly educated individuals around 28 years old. This year alone, 275 houses have been distributed, and approximately 200 more applications are awaiting approval.
